Principal's Message

Welcome to Tijeras Creek Elementary School!

A California Distinguished School

Welcome scholars and parents to the 2017-18 school year at Tijeras Creek Elementary School.  You are now officially a “Tijeras Creek Trailblazing Tiger”   I am truly excited about this school year because of the focus we selected for Tijeras Creek this year.  This year we are beginning a three year partnership with discovery Education.   The result of this partnership combined with support from our Instructional Coach, Elisa Slee, will find scholars immersed in STEM problem solving.   This exciting endeavor will also be the catalyst for creating a Maker Space for our scholars to work in while they combine engineering, math, science, technology, higher level thinking and language arts to problem solve.  Equipped with a green screen and I-pads our scholars will utilize their creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills to problem solve!   This year we are also going to encourage you and your family members to get on board the “Energy Bus” with us.   Through the implementation of the “Energy Bus” written by John Gordon, we want the scholars of TC to know they are the driver of their bus.   Utilizing the 5 Principles found in the “Energy Bus we will be teaching the scholars to focus on the positive, eliminate bullying, set personal goals and fuel their day with positive energy.    We want Tijeras Creek to be a joyful positive community of scholars.   We will also be continuing our focus on student writing as begin year 2 of Write From The Beginning and Beyond training, utilize higher level thinking and implement new ELA series.   As always you will find our school to be a welcoming Professional Learning Community with exceptional teachers.  Our teachers care about the scholars they teach and want them to perform to their highest potential.    We recognize how supportive our parent community members and PTA volunteers are in helping to support the vital enrichment programs provided for our students and thank them for providing these programs.  We are truely pleased to have your family be part of our school community and are excited about working with your child during the upcoming year.  Please join us every Friday morning on the blacktop for our blacktop assembly.  During this time we recognize scholars for their positive choices.   IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE A TIJERAS CREEK SCHOLAR.  I look forward to seeing you t on campus or at the blacktop ceremony

Sincerely.

Mrs. Buckingham
